Hey my name is Holly! I have just graduated high school with NCEA level 3. I am taking a gap year next year to gain more life experience in areas which I'm interested in pursuing a degree in, such as early childhood teaching, health, and educational psychology. I have just moved to Rolleston as of early December, and would love to establish a connection with the community by getting to know families in the area. That being said, I have my full license and own car so I am more than comfortable travelling to families in Lincoln and Christchurch! My experience working with children has so far been voluntarily informal, mostly consisting of babysitting family members from 2 to 12 years old. I love spending time with children such as my cousins and family friends, I have grown up taking care of my brother who is 18 months younger than me. I have also had experience volunteering at Cashmere Primary School in their Garden to Table program. This involved teaching a group of 6 to 10 year old children how to plant fruits and vegetables in the school gardens, followed by harvesting ready crops and making a healthy shared lunch with them in the kitchen. I have also just been hired as a casual supervisor for Youthtown, an organisation which runs fun, creative before/after school and holiday programs for 5 to 18 year olds. I believe that caring for children allows me to play to my strengths and core values, being empathy, creativity, and optimism, which is what makes me so excited about the idea of experience and a career in childcare. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me :)

    Childcare Experience

I have had 4 hours of experience volunteering for a Garden to Table program at Cashmere Primary School. This involved teaching a group of 5 children aged 5-8 basic gardening skills needed to plant and harvest fruits and veggies, followed by basic cooking skills in the kitchen for a shared lunch. This was so much fun and I really enjoy spending time with this age group! Besides this, I have grown up with a brother one year younger than me, who I will still instinctively take care of and clean up after to this day!

    Tutoring Experience

So far my tutoring experience extends as far as just helping my younger brother with his homework throughout our childhood. As recent graduate of Year 13 at Christchurch Girls High School, I can say I have had plenty experience in the education system. I have completed NCEA Level 2 with Excellence endorsement, and NCEA Levels 1 and 3 with Merit endorsement. These achievements along with homework help within the family, make me feel confident in my capabilities of tutoring someone in primary school or intermediate.
